Having been established since 1932, the Moruya Surf Life Saving Club has a long and proud history. While our immediate patrol responsibilities are focused on the beach adjacent the Club, roving patrols are also dispatched to Shelly Beach at the mouth of the Moruya River and south along Moruya beach to Pedro Point.
Our patrol and competition season commences in November and concludes late in April.
Although the beaches are patrolled in the months leading up to Christmas, the water can be quite cool, with warmer currents not arriving until Christmas. Regardless of water temperature, our members will be there to provide a safe swimming environment for locals and visitors.
Surf Life Saving is not just about fit young people running into the surf, it’s about community members caring for the safety of others. For this reason, any member of the community can make a valuable contribution through patrolling the beach, education and administration. Our current patrolling members range from young teens to senior members in their 70’s – all making a valuable contribution.
Education of our Junior and Senior members includes learning valuable surfing and swimming skills through to vital lifesaving and resuscitation skills. These disciplines are sought after by many employers who recognise the application and dedication of the movement and actively seek employees with these skills.
Nippers and Junior activities are conducted at the beach each Sunday morning from 9.00 am from November through until March. Children and interested parents are given the opportunity to learn skills associated with reading and enjoying surf activities whilst also being introduced to life saving techniques.
