Top 44 Junior Athletes invited to attend SLS NSW Development Academy

A group of 44 of Surf Life Saving’s most talented junior athletes have been selected to attend the 2019 Junior Development Academy (JDA) program, including 4 from the FSC Branch

Tarren Elliott (Broulee Surfers SLSC), Bonnie Bradley (Moruya SLSC), Kane Doull (Narooma SLSC) and Zimi Lyras (Tathra SLSC) were chosen from the hundreds that apply every year.

The three-day program will be held 2-4 October at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen. It provides athletes with exposure to the state’s most experienced coaches and allows them to come together and form new friendships.

The athletes will be tested for base fitness measures for training that they can work with over the season to improve. This includes a pool beep test and core and flexibility testing.

There will be a number of inspirational guest speakers, a Pilates session, beach training under the guidance of Michael Clues from North Curl Curl, Pool Rescue training sessions and a communications workshop.  The athletes will also enjoy the high ropes and team building activities all while representing their clubs and branches.

Surf Life Saving NSW Director of Surf Sports Don van Keimpema said the program is an action-packed opportunity for the athletes. “It really is a special experience for the kids who are already showing great talent in our surf sports,” said Keimpema. “Some of them are already training with our top Ironmen and women and others have never had professional coaching before but are still excelling.

“It will be great to have them all together giving them the opportunity to be tested and train with the best we have to offer. These athletes are our future state and national representatives and we want to foster their skills from the get-go to give them the best chance of achieving their dreams.”

All athletes are endorsed by their clubs and branches before being selected to attend the program. All 11 NSW branches are represented.
